I had stayed at a rental to what was to be considered ‘luxury apartments’ in the Financial District of NY, and booked via Airbnb. The stay was from August 4-8 and I was charged $956.26

Unfortunately, I had to leave the apartment in the middle of the night on Tuesday as I was suffering from allergic reactions within the apartment.

I noticed a weird smell from day 1 and I had messaged the host to perhaps address it. Nothing was really done, and as the day went on, I noticed my throat starting to swell. I had the leave the premise to feel like I could breath.

On Monday, I had to leave the morning itself as I literally was choking and my skin inflamed. When I brought my co-workers over, they were facing the same issue. I honestly had no idea what to do as I had to pay everything upfront and it was non-refundable.

Come Tuesday, I was in hell. My skin was red and had swollen up, I couldn’t breath, my eyes dried out and I had to leave. I contaced Airbnb and they offered to relocate me to a completely different city which I couldn’t do for work so I had to book a hotel for 1 night at $833 dollars to which they offered a measly $200 credit.

I contacted the host several times over this period and they offered only $340 dollars. I am still suffering from the consequences of this stay and the communication between the Airbnb hosts (Sondor) and Airbnb was horrible.
