Planet Fitness Complaint

I submitted a cancellation form with Planet Fitness at the Sterling, VA in August 2019 to Otis Polk.Upon submitting the form, I asked whether there was anything else I needed to do to terminate my membership.I was told no.Two months later, I saw two additional charges on my credit card from Planet Fitness for months in which I didn't use the gym.I called the Sterling VA facility, and spoke with Manager Bobby L----, who refused to apply the payment for non-use to my buy out balance, and also refused to apply the remaining balance to my credit card they have on file without requiring me to make yet another in person visit.

Billing practices seem extremely predatory. Cannot cancel unless it is physically in person or mailed by 'USPS certified' mail only, but this must be delivered and seen almost a full month before you wish to cancel, otherwise you are charged (ie you must have the written letter delivered by the 25th of the prior month to not be charged on the 17th of the next month). In their contract it says "The annual membership fee is fully earned when received and is non-refundable." This facility also did not have the member classes with a fitness expert despite advertising it. Terms and conditions were handed hastily and encourage to just sign it by employees.

Planet Fitness Complaint

Tried to cancel membership in December 2018. Spoke to employee over the phone who told me my account was cancelled and I was “all set.” Come January, I received a notice from my bank stating my account had been overdrawn due to planet fitness. So i called them and spoke to a manager who informed me that I had actually needed to come in to the gym in order to cancel my membership. I told them that their employees needed to be better trained because there is no reason my account should have been overdrawn. I work several hours a week and am also in the army reserves so I have to attend drill once a month so I wasn’t able to make it in to the gym until about a week before they charged me a second time in February. Even though I had made it in to cancel my membership before the charge due day, they still overdrew from my account a second time! I have been trying for weeks now to receive contact from a manager and no luck. I believe it is their responsibility to correct this overdrawn issue and the fees that came along with it from my bank since it was the fault of their employee assuring me my account had been cancelled in December.
